In the [former] section »Words a Dozen« of The Word Company’s web site were two pages with compilations of some user names from online forums.

One day the log files of my server showed that a lot of traffic came from one of these forums. Someone has discoverd his/her own forum pseudonym in the list while doing a show-me-on-which-site-i-am-listed web research with Google.

Here is an excerpt from a small dialogue on the forum’s web site.

What the hell is this?
What is that?! I’m confused…
WTF?
“Selected user names of the forum [...]”
yeah that is so weird… I was searching the web for my user name… apparently [...] is a river/valley somewhere in [...]… but yea… i came across that…
it appears to be an old forum member list.
i found [..., ..., ...], and even someone named [...]….
well I realize that… lol, but what the hell is it doing there!?!?
Im not on the hitlist!
what the…?
hm…
perhaps its a list of potential threats to national security…
ne neither…
Yeah that list is from the old [...] days… but i don’t understand…
on their homepage. it says ‘now you can name everything, even things that havent been invented yet.’.. maybe those are some suggestion for products names
I know Id buy a “[...]” if I had the chance to!
that sounds like some sort of “lubrication” to me….
“Put some [...] on that wheel, it’s squeaking something fierce.”
…howd you find that anyway [...]? I think Ill google [...] and see what comes up probably just a bunch of forum posts haha
i searched google for “[... ...]” and that was one of the results…
[...] ah, its nice to be influential
This is incredibly weird. Heres the list in English… [...] Weird… I guess they planned on stealing peoples names for products without names or something. Thats kind of ignorant if you ask me
its just a commentary on copyright and plagiarism – whos to say who owns any one word? Its like some recent depates with domain names where one ‘normal’ person might have the same name as a famous person but the famous person will take the lesser known person to court to get the site URL because their name is like a trademark for them. [...] member names is just one of many misc. examples of people claiming names to be their own. Who owns [...]? Do I? I use it all the time but that doesnt prevent anyone else from doing so. Can I stop them if they do? Does my use and the reputation I have with this name give me any legal right to its use? The boundries are fairly blurred.
Uh oh… do I feel an “ordered” conversation coming on
hehe.
im glad im not on there. that is really weird. when ever i search for members names, i always find something weird…
strange… very strange
I ran a search, and apparently alot of people have the last name [...] – I mainly found [insert a first name here] [...]‘s home page sites… hee hee one of them has his PhD: sweet!
Peace
LOL… I ran a search on my real name and one of the links it returned was a link to a newspaper article about my art class going to New York to distribute these big banner things we painted (man they took forever to paint). The best thing about this article is when they call my girlfriend a Junior… she was so mad because she was a Senior and she told the reporter that… good times… good times hehe.
[...]
geez this is all a little weird and freaky
i searched for [...], and i got these results
and alot more….
im going to run a search to see if i can find anything else
THAT SUCKS! My name isn’t on the list!
When I search for my name on google, I just have 3 results. And that’s better like this :D
